Clamp vs Housecall Pro: A service dispatch business or residential project control
Housecall Pro is built for a service business: online booking, dispatch, routing, recurring service plans, automated follow-up and integrated payments. Clamp is built around one residential project at a time: estimate at cost, signed milestones, change orders, customer decisions and job cost review.

Verdict
Clamp may fit when
- You run residential projects where the signed scope keeps changing as the work develops
- You estimate at direct job cost, apply your company markup once, and review actual cost against the estimate at close
- You want each scope change priced and signed as its own change order before the changed work starts
- You want milestones, customer decisions and closeout records on the same job
- You work with subs who need job access without seeing your customer prices
- You want change orders, job costing, time on site and mileage on the lowest plan
Housecall Pro may fit when
- You dispatch technicians to several service calls a day
- You want customers to book online, including from Google Search and Maps
- You sell recurring service plans or maintenance agreements with scheduled visits
- You want drive-time routing, live vehicle GPS and 'On my way' texts
- You want automated text and email follow-up on open estimates and unscheduled jobs
- You want card, bank and check payments, consumer financing and review requests in the same system
- You want the market reach and name recognition of a widely used home-services brand
Before you compare them
- Housecall Pro and Clamp overlap on estimates, e-signatures, progress invoicing, deposits, a customer portal, time tracking and job costing. The overlap is real; the organizing idea is different.
- Housecall Pro's strongest documented advantages are online booking, dispatch, routing, recurring service plans, automated follow-up, integrated payments with financing, review management and a widely recognized brand.
- Clamp's advantage is the connected residential project: qualification, an estimate at cost, proposal milestones, customer decisions, change orders and the estimate-against-actual review.
- Housecall Pro job costing is listed on every plan. Clamp job costing is on every plan. The two are not identical: Housecall Pro builds labor from a clock-in time clock at a fully loaded rate; Clamp logs time on site by role and reviews it against the estimate line.
- Housecall Pro processes cards, bank payments and checks and offers consumer financing. Clamp records payments and can show your own payment link in the customer portal.
- No change order workflow was found on Housecall Pro's pricing page, remodeler page, estimates page or the Help Center articles checked. Housecall Pro's progress invoicing cannot bill past 100% of the job total, so added scope is handled by changing the job.
- Housecall Pro's customer portal and e-signatures appear on every plan as far as its pages state. Clamp's customer portal and e-signatures start on Assistant.
- Clamp is not accounting software, not a GPS crew time clock with geofencing, and does no plan takeoff. Housecall Pro has employee GPS on Essentials and QuickBooks sync; neither product is a general ledger.
- "Not found" on this page means not found on Housecall Pro's current pricing page, feature pages, remodeler page or Help Center. It does not mean Housecall Pro cannot do it another way.
- Neither product was tested against the other. No speed or accuracy claim is made.
Workflow
| Feature | Clamp | Housecall Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Estimate at cost, then markup | Every line at direct cost; the markup from your overhead and profit goal goes on once | Estimates with cost breakdowns and profit margin, from the price book; good-better-best options; how markup is applied per line was not found on Housecall Pro's pages |
| AI estimates | A draft at direct cost from a plain description, then your markup (3 free credits, then 25 or 50 a month by plan; an estimate is 1 credit, a revision half) | 'AI team members' on all plans and AI-generated service agreements; an AI estimate from a job description was not found on Housecall Pro's pages |
| Paid design agreement | A design agreement document on every plan | A dedicated paid design agreement was not found on Housecall Pro's pricing, remodeler or estimates pages |
| Quote or proposal e-signature | Proposals signed in the customer portal (Assistant and Teams) | Customers approve and e-sign estimates from phone or email; the visual sales proposal tool with side-by-side packages is on Max |
| Allowances | Allowance lines on the estimate for selections not yet made, priced like every other line | Good-better-best options at quote time; a dedicated allowance workflow was not found on Housecall Pro's pages |
| Customer decisions after signing | A Decisions needed list: needed by, what it blocks, who owes the answer, the resolution | Options are chosen when the estimate is approved; a decision list after signing was not found on Housecall Pro's pages |
| Change orders | A change order on every plan: priced and billed, e-signed in the portal on Assistant and Teams, with its effect on the contract total shown before signing | Not found on the pricing page, remodeler page, estimates page or Help Center articles checked; progress invoices cannot exceed 100% of the job total, so added scope means changing the job |
| Progress billing | Milestones tied to job events, each with a checklist of evidence; billed as the stage starts | Progress invoicing on a job by percentage or fixed amount, each invoice with its own terms; deposits on a job as an amount or percentage |
| Job costing | Every plan: receipts, vendor bills, time at the loaded rate, labor, returns; reviewed against the estimate at close | Listed on every plan: labor from tracked time at a fully loaded rate, material and miscellaneous inputs, commissions; profit margin per job and profit reports |
| Time on site | Logged by role, or detected automatically when you leave a job site; no geofenced crew time clock | Clock in and out in the app, travel and on-job time per job, clock locations recorded, location prompts at the job site, exportable timesheets |
| Business mileage log | Automatic trip detection, confirmed per trip, at the IRS rate for its date | Employee GPS on Essentials and live vehicle GPS; an IRS-style mileage log was not found on Housecall Pro's pages |
| Customer portal | Sign proposals and change orders, see milestones, invoices and photos, answer decisions (Assistant and Teams) | View appointments, approve estimates, pay invoices, request a reschedule, book online, keep a card on file, share a referral link |
| Payments and financing | Not processed by Clamp: add your own payment link and record what was paid; no financing | Cards 'as low as 2.59%', bank payments 1%, checks through the app free; consumer and business financing on all plans |
| Automated follow-up | Email reminders from Assistant; you send a payment reminder from the invoice | Pipeline automations by text and email: up to three estimate follow-ups, scheduling attempts and lead follow-ups |
| Scheduling, dispatch and routing | A shared job schedule your crew and subs confirm (Teams); no dispatch board or route optimization | Drag-and-drop dispatch with multiple visits on every plan; routes on Essentials; route optimization by drive time and traffic on Max; 'On my way' texts with GPS ETAs |
| Online booking and recurring service plans | Not offered | Online booking on every plan, including Reserve with Google; recurring service plans on Max |
| External subcontractor access | Unlimited free sub invites on Teams; subs see the job and schedule, never your prices | Subcontractors can be scheduled; users are counted per plan, $35 a month each beyond 8 on Max; free external sub access was not found on Housecall Pro's pages |
| Lead qualification | A five-question score on the first call | Pipeline with automated lead follow-ups and lost-lead handling; a lead-scoring workflow was not found on Housecall Pro's pages |
| Accounting | An accountant export package; no general ledger, payroll, bank feeds or tax filing | QuickBooks Online sync on Essentials and Max; the remodeler page also names QuickBooks Desktop |
What was and was not tested
What was compared: Hands-on testing of either product. Neither was tested against the other, and no speed or accuracy claim is made. Documented, not tested.
| Statement | Basis |
|---|---|
| Published by Clamp, using each product's own pricing pages, feature pages and Help Center. | Clamp's own statement |
| Solo contractor, entry plan, billed annually: Housecall Pro Basic is $708 a year (calculated) and Clamp Solo is $149.99. Billed monthly: Housecall Pro Basic is $79 a month and Clamp Solo is $19.99. | Calculated from published prices |
| Five people with job costing, billed annually: Housecall Pro Essentials is $1,788 a year (calculated) for 5 users; Clamp Teams is $999.99 for up to 10 accounts. The plans are not equivalent: Essentials includes dispatch, routes, employee GPS, payments and QuickBooks sync that Clamp does not offer, and Teams includes change orders, milestones and decision records that Housecall Pro does not document. | Calculated from published prices |
| Housecall Pro's pricing page labels Basic '$59/mo (Billed annually)' and shows a 'Billing cycle: Save with annual' toggle; the $149 and $299 figures for Essentials and Max are read from that same annual layout, and the $189 and $329 figures from the monthly one. | Verified against a published source |
Switching
- Export your customers, estimates, jobs and invoices from Housecall Pro before you cancel; there is no long-term contract, and a downgrade takes effect at the end of the billing period.
- Do not assume Housecall Pro history can be imported into Clamp; confirm formats first.
- If you depend on in-app card payments, cards on file or consumer financing, set up a payment link and a financing partner before you switch.
- If customers book you online or you sell recurring service plans, keep Housecall Pro for that side of the business; Clamp does not replace it.
- Finish open jobs where they started; start new ones in Clamp.
Questions
Can Housecall Pro handle a remodel with several phases and progress payments?
Yes. Housecall Pro markets to remodelers and documents phase, trade and subcontractor scheduling, multi-day jobs, digital signatures and staged invoicing by milestone, fixed amount or percentage, plus job costing and QuickBooks sync. A separate signed change-order workflow and a customer decision list after signing were not found on its official pages, so confirm those if your remodels depend on them.
How much is Housecall Pro Basic for a one-person business?
Housecall Pro Basic is $59 a month billed annually or $79 month to month for one user, $708 a year on annual billing. Its pricing page lists booking, dispatch, estimates, invoices, payments and job costing on Basic. Clamp Solo is $19.99 a month or $149.99 a year, but it does not replace Housecall Pro's booking, dispatch or built-in payment processing.
How much is Housecall Pro for a five-person crew?
Housecall Pro Essentials covers five users for $149 a month billed annually or $189 month to month, and Max covers eight users for $299 or $329, with extra users at $35 a month. Clamp Teams covers up to 10 accounts for $83.33 a month billed annually. Housecall Pro's price includes dispatch, online booking and built-in payments that Clamp does not have.
Does Housecall Pro track actual job costs and signed change orders?
Housecall Pro includes job costing on every plan, tracking labor, materials, miscellaneous costs, commissions and job profit. A separate signed change-order workflow was not found on the official pages checked. Clamp has change orders on every plan, with e-signing on Assistant and Teams. Confirm Housecall Pro's current workflow if signed scope changes are essential to your jobs.
What would I lose by switching from Housecall Pro to Clamp?
Switching from Housecall Pro to Clamp means giving up online booking, dispatch, routing, recurring service plans, automated text follow-up and built-in card processing. Clamp instead connects residential scope, milestones, customer decisions, change orders and actual job costs. A contractor who runs service calls alongside remodels should weigh those losses before switching.
Does Housecall Pro work offline?
Housecall Pro's pricing page lists offline viewing, but creating estimates or invoices offline is not described on its official pages. Clamp's leads, estimates, proposals, change orders and invoices work with no signal on every plan; AI drafts, e-signing and the customer portal need a connection when you use them. If you work in basements or rural lots, test the offline steps you need during a trial.
