Clamp vs Contractor Foreman: Broad construction administration, or a focused residential job workflow on a phone
Contractor Foreman is broad construction administration at a low entry price: purchase orders, bid management, permits, submittals, AIA-style billing, Gantt scheduling and two-way QuickBooks sync. Clamp is a focused residential job workflow on a phone: estimate at cost, signed milestones, customer decisions, change orders and job cost review.

Verdict
Clamp may fit when
- You run two- to ten-person residential jobs from a phone and want one job record from the first call to closeout
- You estimate at direct job cost and apply your markup once from your overhead and profit goal
- You want the signed proposal, milestones, customer decisions and change orders on every plan without a feature matrix to decode
- You want time on site and business mileage captured automatically and costed against the job
- You work with subs who need job access without seeing your customer prices
- You want a plain-language AI draft of the estimate at direct cost to start from
Contractor Foreman may fit when
- Your jobs need purchase orders, bid management, subcontracts, retainage or AIA G702 and G703 billing
- You track permits, submittals, RFIs, inspections, daily logs and safety meetings
- You schedule on a Gantt chart and sync it to Google or Outlook calendars
- You want two-way QuickBooks Online or Desktop sync and a Gusto time card export
- You want GPS-verified, geofenced crew time cards
- You want plan takeoffs, a real-time material cost database and client financing on estimates
- You want the lowest published entry price for one user on annual billing
Before you compare them
- Contractor Foreman is a broad construction administration platform with 47 published modules. Clamp is a shorter residential job workflow with the documents and tracking records a remodel needs. Many Contractor Foreman modules have no Clamp equivalent, and Clamp does not try to match them.
- Contractor Foreman's strongest documented advantages are purchase orders, bid management, subcontracts, permits, submittals, daily logs, Gantt scheduling, AIA-style billing with retainage, GPS time cards, takeoffs and two-way QuickBooks sync.
- Clamp's advantage is the connected residential job: lead qualification, an estimate at cost with the markup applied once, proposal milestones, customer decisions, change orders, automatic time and mileage, and the estimate-against-actual review, on every plan.
- Contractor Foreman Basic is published at $49 a month for annual billing only; on monthly billing the first plan is Standard at $139. Clamp Solo is $19.99 monthly or $149.99 a year.
- Contractor Foreman's pricing page lists user bands per plan (1, 3, 8, 15, unlimited). Its feature pages say plans include unlimited users with no per-user charges. Both are quoted here; ask Contractor Foreman which applies.
- The pricing page's plan-by-feature check marks are icons that could not be read as text, so this page does not state which Contractor Foreman plan includes the client portal, change orders or job costing. The only readable plan note is that Basic and Standard do not include Local Material Database pricing.
- Contractor Foreman processes online payments through Stripe. Clamp records payments and can show your own payment link in the customer portal.
- Clamp is not accounting software, not a geofenced crew time clock and does no takeoffs. Contractor Foreman documents all three.
- "Not found" on this page means not found on Contractor Foreman's current pricing, features, integrations and feature pages. It does not mean Contractor Foreman cannot do it another way.
- Neither product was tested against the other. No speed or accuracy claim is made.
Workflow
| Feature | Clamp | Contractor Foreman |
|---|---|---|
| Estimate at cost, then markup | Every line at direct cost; the markup from your overhead and profit goal goes on once | Bulk and line-item markups, a cost items database, and real-time material and labor pricing from 1build (Local Material Database pricing not included on Basic and Standard) |
| AI estimates | A draft at direct cost from a plain-language description, then your markup (3 free AI credits, then 25 or 50 a month by plan; an estimate is 1 credit, a revision half) | No AI estimating was found on the estimates or features pages; the pricing page describes a built-in AI assistant for takeoffs |
| Plan takeoffs | Not offered | Upload plans, measure quantities and link them to estimates |
| Paid design agreement | A design agreement document on every plan | Proposal and cover sheet templates for residential and commercial work; a dedicated paid design agreement was not found on Contractor Foreman's pricing, features or estimates pages |
| Proposal e-signature | Proposals signed in the customer portal (Assistant and Teams) | Clients review and sign estimates by link without an account; signatures carry timestamps and IP addresses |
| Change orders | A change order on every plan: priced and billed, e-signed in the portal on Assistant and Teams, with its effect on the contract shown before signing | Change orders signed electronically; the contract amount updates automatically on approval; change order requests can be combined. The plan that includes them was not readable on the pricing page |
| Progress billing | Milestones tied to job events, each with a checklist of evidence; billed as the stage starts | Schedule of values, progress invoicing, AIA-style G702 and G703 invoicing with retention tracking, and time and material billing |
| Customer decisions after signing | A Decisions needed list: needed by, what it blocks, who owes the answer, the resolution | Clients approve estimates, change orders, RFIs and submittals in the portal; a decision list with due dates and what each blocks was not found on Contractor Foreman's pricing, features or client portal pages |
| Customer portal | Sign proposals and change orders, see milestones, invoices, photos and the schedule, answer decisions (Assistant and Teams) | Approvals with a trail, contract totals and balances, pay by card or ACH, progress photos, schedule, file uploads, full or read-only access per contact. The plan that includes it was not readable on the pricing page |
| Payments | Not processed by Clamp: add your own payment link and record what was paid | Online payments through Stripe, card or ACH from the portal; SweetPay client financing on estimates; processing fees were not found on the official pages |
| Job costing | Every plan: receipts, vendor bills, time at the loaded rate, mileage and returns, reviewed against the estimate at close | Real-time job costing with original and revised budgets, fed by time cards, bills and purchase orders, with job costing reports. The plan that includes it was not readable on the pricing page |
| Crew time | Time on site logged by role, or detected automatically when you leave a job site; no geofencing | Time cards with GPS verification, geofencing and automatic breaks; one-click export to Gusto |
| Business mileage log | Automatic trip detection, confirmed per trip, at the IRS rate for its date | Equipment and vehicle logs record mileage, tolls and service history; an automatic IRS-rate trip log was not found on the features page |
| Purchase orders, bids and subcontracts | Vendor bills and receipts against the job; no purchase orders, bid management or subcontract documents | Purchase orders tied to bills, bid management with vendor invites and conversion to a PO or subcontract, sub-contracts and retainage |
| Permits, submittals, daily logs and safety | A punch list and job photos; no permit, submittal, RFI, daily log or safety modules | Permits with dates, fees and inspections; submittals; daily logs; inspections; incidents; safety meetings; forms and checklists |
| Scheduling | A shared job schedule your crew and subs confirm (Teams); no Gantt chart | Gantt chart project scheduling, crew schedule, service tickets, and Google and Outlook calendar sync |
| Team and subs | Up to 10 accounts on Teams, plus unlimited free sub invites who never see your prices | User bands by plan on the pricing page: 1, 3, 8, 15 or unlimited; feature pages say unlimited users with no per-user charges. Vendors can bid without an account |
| Accounting | An accountant export package; no ledger, payroll, bank feeds or tax filing | Two-way sync with QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop; Gusto time card export; Xero listed as coming mid-2026 |
What was and was not tested
What was compared: Hands-on testing of either product. Neither was tested against the other, and no speed or accuracy claim is made. Documented, not tested.
| Statement | Basis |
|---|---|
| Published by Clamp, using each product's own pricing, features, integrations and feature pages. | Clamp's own statement |
| One person, billed annually: Contractor Foreman Basic is $588 a year and Clamp Solo is $149.99. Basic is the lowest published entry price among the construction administration platforms Clamp has compared, and it covers far more modules than Solo. | Verified against a published source |
| One person, billed monthly: Contractor Foreman shows Basic for annual billing only, so the first monthly plan is Standard at $139 a month for up to 3 users ($1,668 a year, calculated). Clamp Solo is $19.99 a month ($239.88 a year, calculated), with the first month free. | Calculated from published prices |
| Five people with job costing and a client portal, billed annually: Contractor Foreman Plus is $1,997 a year for up to 8 users; Clamp Teams is $999.99 for up to 10 accounts. Whether Plus is the plan that includes the portal and job costing could not be read from the pricing page. The plans are not equivalent: Plus includes administration modules Clamp does not offer. | Calculated from published prices |
| Contractor Foreman's pricing page shows the Plus, Pro and Unlimited money-back guarantee as 100 days in one section and 30 days in another. Both figures appear on the same page on 2026-10-14. | Verified against a published source |
Switching
- Export your projects, estimates, invoices, change orders and client list from Contractor Foreman before you cancel; Basic and annual plans renew at the published annual price.
- Do not assume Contractor Foreman history can be imported into Clamp; confirm formats first.
- If you depend on QuickBooks sync, purchase orders, AIA billing or GPS time cards, those have no Clamp equivalent; decide how you will handle them before you switch.
- Save your cost items database somewhere you can re-enter the ones you use as Clamp rates.
- Finish open jobs where they started; start new ones in Clamp.
Questions
How much do Contractor Foreman and Clamp cost for a five-person crew?
A five-person crew fits Contractor Foreman Plus, $166 a month billed annually for up to eight users, or Clamp Teams, $83.33 a month billed annually for up to 10 accounts. Contractor Foreman adds purchase orders, bid management, submittals and AIA billing that Clamp does not have, so weigh those office functions alongside the subscription price.
What is Contractor Foreman's cheapest plan, and can I pay monthly?
Contractor Foreman Basic is $49 a month for one user, sold only on annual billing at $588 a year. Month-to-month billing starts with Standard at $139 a month for up to three users. Standard billed annually shows as $105 a month, but the annual total on the pricing page is $1,264, so budget from the annual total rather than the rounded monthly figure.
What can homeowners approve and pay through Contractor Foreman's client portal?
Contractor Foreman's client portal lets homeowners approve estimates, change orders, RFIs and submittals, see financial totals, photos and schedules, upload files, and pay invoices by card or ACH, with full or read-only access per contact. Its pricing page does not make clear which plan includes the portal. Clamp's portal and e-signing start on Assistant and are included in Teams.
When would a small remodeler need Contractor Foreman's extra features?
A small remodeler needs Contractor Foreman when the work calls for purchase orders, bid management, submittals, AIA billing or retainage, not just estimates and invoices. It also covers remodeling basics such as change orders, time cards and a client portal. Clamp is a narrower residential workflow and does not replace those construction-administration tools.
Do Contractor Foreman and Clamp sync with QuickBooks?
Contractor Foreman publishes a two-way connection with QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop, while Clamp provides an accountant export package instead of a sync. Contractor Foreman also documents a Gusto time-card export. Clamp does not replace accounting, payroll, bank feeds or tax filing, so automatic transfer to the books is a real reason to choose Contractor Foreman.
