Arizona Contractor Deposit Rules (2026): Pools 15%, Storm Repair 50%

Arizona caps deposits on pools and spas at 15% and on catastrophic-storm repair at 50%; other work has no cap. Quoted from A.R.S. 32-1158.01 and 32-1158.02.

Short answer: Arizona has no general cap, but two kinds of jobs have one. On a residential in-ground pool or spa, the down payment can't exceed 15% of the original price. On catastrophic-storm repair, the down payment can't be required to exceed 50% of the contract.

Pool payment schedule

After the down payment: up to 25% after excavation, 25% after steel, plumbing and shotcrete, and 25% after decking. A purchaser who requires a payment and performance bond can agree to a different schedule.

Storm repair rights

The owner can cancel for any reason within four business days of signing, or within 72 hours of a claim denial; payments are refunded within ten days, and no work starts before the insurer decides, except to prevent further loss.

New in 2026

Laws 2026, ch. 157 (SB 1206), in force September 12, 2026, bars proposing a storm-repair agreement while the storm or the public-safety response is still going on. The 50% figure did not change.

How we checked

We read each state's statute or licensing rule on the official legislature or agency site and quote it as written. Where the official site would not load, the row says so and names the copy we read. A state stays "still being checked" until we have read the full rule; we never mark it "no cap" before then. Last checked .

This guide explains what the statutes say. It is not legal advice; for a specific contract, ask a lawyer licensed in your state.
